Best flooring options for a hallway

5/6/20

Unless you have a ‘shoes off at the door’ policy, your hallway floor is going to see its fair share of mud and dirt over its lifetime. For this reason, easy-to-clean flooring options are usually preferred for hallways and porches.

Solid wood Flooring

You won’t find a more durable choice than solid wood flooring, plus it’s unbeatable if you want to make a great first impression. Whilst solid wood flooring comes with a heftier price tag than alternatives, they are hygienic, easy to maintain and will not fade over time. What’s more, solid wood floors have a very long lifespan, as they can be sanded down and refinished should they start to look worn.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles

If you are put off by the price of solid wood flooring, luxury vinyl tile is a great low-maintenance alternative. Vinyl tiles are available in two variations: gluedown LVT and click LVT. The former is cheaper to purchase but takes longer to install, whilst the second is pricier to purchase but much quicker and easier to install.

Luxury vinyl tile is durable, waterproof, easy to clean and available in a wide variety of colours and design patterns; it can even replicate the appearance of real wood, though it feels smoother and ‘spongier’ underfoot.

Laminate Flooring

If you are looking for an alternative to wood flooring that looks and feels just like the real thing, then laminate flooring is the best hallway option for you. Laminate flooring can be just as convincing as real solid wood flooring, despite being cheaper to buy and quicker to install. Scratch and wear-resistant, laminate flooring is more than capable of handling all the muddy boots you can throw at it!
